The world's happiest animal: the short-tailed dwarf kangaroo
Short-tailed dwarf kangaroos are marsupial mammals that look like rats. They live mostly on the island of Rottnest, off the southwest coast of Australia. They have been called "the happiest animal in the world" because of their chubby faces and "sweet" smiles. Such a happy animal has been listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, and its numbers are declining, with fewer than 15,000 remaining.
