The world's oldest fish: the bay redfish
This 84-year-old bay redfish was caught by Australian fishermen fishing at sea. Initially, people were surprised to see such a large bay redfish, but could not determine its specific age, so the fish was sent to the local Institute of Science. The scientists finally determined that the fish was born in 1929 by examining its bones, which is considered the oldest fish in the world.
The scientific name of this fish is "Centroberyx gerrardi", which is a kind of common fish with a wide distribution area and a large number of fish, with a red body and brilliant color. How old is not known.
Fish is a food of great nutritional value, commercially available fish, generally aged 2-3 years, this age of fish is not only delicious, and delicate taste, rich in nutrients. Older fish, such as this 84-year-old bay redfish, is not recommended for consumption because the fish is too old, the taste is poor and the nutritional value has decreased, but this fish has research value and contributes to the scientific cause of mankind.
How can we determine the age of a fish in our lives? The easiest way to determine the age of a fish is by looking at the number of growth rings on its ear bones. This method is similar to the method we use to determine the age of a tree, as long as we count the annual rings. In fact, scientists have previously found a very old fish, the age of 78 years, but still six years younger than the Gulf red fish.
At first, scientists were going to observe the appearance of the Bay Redfish to determine its age, but because the fish was too old, it was necessary to observe the bones with the help of a microscope to confirm the age
